There are many ski resorts in Austria, but which ones are considered particularly good? We will give you an insight into the areas you should not miss during your next visit to Austria.
Tyrol
The ski regions in Tyrol seem to be gaining popularity. Not only for passionate skiers but also for families, this area offers an excellent range of options.
Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis (Level: Easy to Intermediate)
The Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski resort is known for its family-friendly atmosphere. The slopes range from easy to intermediate and are particularly suitable for beginners and children. Additionally, there are many offers for families, including childcare, an adventure arena, and an indoor play area for kids. The ski region has a charming kids' snow farm. In the adventure land, the little ones can explore the world of the mascot, Murmli. Moreover, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis places great emphasis on verifying the ski region. Together with SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser, these two ski areas are part of the sixteen certified ski regions in Tyrol and are particularly suitable for families. The winter season lasts from early December to early April.
SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental (Level: Easy to Difficult)
Have you always wanted to see the filming locations of "The Mountain Doctor" while skiing down adventurous slopes? Then you should take a closer look at SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser (Brixental). This ski resort offers something for both adults and children. Additionally, SkiWelt is ideally located, allowing you to visit Munich, Innsbruck, and Salzburg during your vacation. Like Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, it is particularly family-friendly and offers Family Ski Weeks (07.12 - 20.12.24 and 15.03 - 30.03.25), where lift passes for children up to 15 years old are free. Of course, there are also slopes for beginners. The ski season lasts from early December to late March.
Ischgl (Level: Easy to Difficult)
Are you looking for wellness and party combined with skiing? Then Ischgl might be the right choice for you! The slopes offer fun for all levels and, with snowparks, provide variety, ensuring that even experienced skiers and snowboarders will enjoy their time. In addition to the adventurous ski region, Ischgl offers relaxation at the Silvretta Therme, where you can unwind after a long and exhausting day in the snow and enjoy high-quality spa treatments. The start of the ski and snowboard season is marked by a big event with world stars like Ellie Goulding, who will kick off the season. You can also take advantage of the experience program, which offers various mountain experiences such as snowshoeing in the picturesque backdrop of the Alps. The winter season lasts from late November to early May.
Sölden (Level: Easy to Difficult)
You may have already heard of the Sölden ski resort. It boasts the longest ski descent in Austria and much more. Experience adventure in the fun park and discover the charm of Sölden. Take the opportunity to slide down a 7 km long toboggan run, not only during the day but also at night. Additionally, a masterpiece of the film world was shot here: Spectre. Thus, Sölden is not only a ski resort but also the filming location of a James Bond movie. Dive into the set and visit the 007 experience world high in the mountains during the winter season from mid-September to early May.
Ski Resort Outside Tyrol
But Tyrol is not the only region with promising ski resorts! Although the ski areas in Tyrol are very tempting, offering many options for young adults, families, and professional skiers and snowboarders, we shouldn't forget the Arlberg ski region!
Arlberg (Level: Easy to Difficult)
Arlberg is one of the five largest ski areas in Austria. The resort rewards you with a stunning panoramic view of the breathtaking beauty of the Alps and offers countless slopes for skiing and snowboarding. There is a wide selection of runs for both professional skiers and snowboarders, as well as for beginners. In addition to traditional skiing, you can also try cross-country skiing or explore hiking routes. The Arlberg ski area includes several other resorts, including Lech, which is particularly worthwhile due to a unique experience: the Skyspace. This is an underground color-light room that changes into various colors as the sun rises in the early morning or during dusk. The winter season lasts from early December to late April.
