Due to the upcoming Black Friday and the start of the Christmas shopping season, increased traffic volumes are expected in Vienna. At the same time, the concert by Rita Ora is taking place in Ischgl, so you should expect traffic jams not only in the country’s capital, but also in the winter sports resort.
This year, Black Friday takes place on 28/11/2025 and thus marks the beginning of the first Christmas shopping activities. It is therefore not surprising that many people will be out and about in the city. As a result, heavy traffic and full car parks are very likely. Long delays and traffic jams are expected from the late morning onwards. In addition to the city centre (e.g. Brünner Straße, Mariahilfer Straße, Neubaugürtel, Nordbrücke, Wagramer Straße), the Southern Motorway (A2) between the Inzersdorf junction and Wiener Neudorf will also be affected. You should also avoid the Wiener Neustädter Straße (B17). The city is not only crowded during the day. The return journey in the evening can also be challenging, as the influx of visitors is driven not only by the shopping rush but also by the Christmas markets. You should therefore also expect delays around Schönbrunn Palace and on Grünbergstraße.
Black Friday will not only lead to increased traffic volumes in Vienna, but also in other cities across the country:
In addition to Black Friday, a special event will take place next weekend: Rita Ora is the act at this year’s opening concert of “Top of the Mountain” in Ischgl. On 29/11/2025, she will officially open the ski season in Ischgl and from 6 p.m. will perform hits such as “Let You Love Me”. Due to this unique performance, traffic jams are expected especially in the morning hours. You should therefore avoid the Arlberg Expressway (S16) before the Pians/Paznaun exit and the Silvretta Road (B188).
