Since January 1, 2025, the old Lueg Bridge has mostly been limited to single-lane traffic in both directions. This regulation was introduced for safety reasons. Next to the existing bridge, construction of the new bridge already began at the end of March 2025. The work is expected to continue until the end of 2030.
Although for most of the time only one lane per direction can be used, two lanes are currently available until October 5. From October 6 to October 17, road surface repairs will mainly be carried out during night shifts. During these times, a truck driving ban will apply. On weekdays, only one lane will then be available for traffic, while on weekends two lanes per direction will be open.
The exception of being able to use two lanes in each direction will be applied flexibly on high-traffic days. Traffic flow will be adjusted accordingly (either northbound or southbound) on around 180 days. If such a situation arises, all vehicles over 3.5 t must use the left lane, while passenger cars can choose which lane to drive in.
In order to relieve the Wipptal and the surrounding metropolitan area during the restrictions, additional measures must be observed. Additional no-through-traffic regulations will be introduced on the lower road network, along with metering traffic lights, and public transport will be further expanded. Please visit the Lueg Bridge website for precise and up-to-date information.
Since the restricted use of the bridge may still lead to congestion on the Brenner Motorway, there will be, in addition to the already existing truck ban days, 36 days of driving bans southbound and 21 days northbound.
