Due to maintenance work, the Brenner Station will be closed for one week in August. So, anyone traveling by train from Germany via Austria to South Tyrol will need to be patient. The Brenner Railway of the Brenner Base Tunnel is closed for one week between Brixen in South Tyrol and Brenner or Steinach in Tyrol, Austria. Despite replacement bus services, tourists during peak travel season should expect delays, as the buses must take a long detour due to another construction site on the Brenner Motorway.
From August 11 to August 18, Brenner Station will not be accessible. Due to construction work by the German and Italian railways (RFI), the station will be out of service for this week. Some trains will be rerouted over the Tauern Railway and Tarvisio, including RJ 82, RJ 83, RJ 84, and RJ 85. The following stops will be omitted:
Most trains from Munich to Italy will also be canceled. Rail replacement buses along the Brenner route are unfortunately not possible, as the major construction site on the A13 at the Lueg Bridge is also disrupting traffic.
The replacement buses that are operating will travel via Brixen, Franzensfeste, Freienfeld, Sterzing, Gossensaß, and Brenner. Some stops normally served by the train will be skipped, so it’s best to check in advance whether your stop is included. Animals (except guide dogs) and bicycles are not allowed on these buses.
The R1829 train from Innsbruck will terminate at Brenner during this week, and the R1826 train from Trento to Brenner will be canceled until Tuesday (August 19, 2025).
