The sixth day of my journey brought another highlight: a drive along the famous Großglockner High Alpine Road, one of the most impressive panoramic roads in Europe. The road winds through the Hohe Tauern National Park and offers breathtaking views of Austria's highest mountain, the Großglockner.
The drive began early in the morning as the first rays of sunshine turned the mountain peaks golden. Every curve of the High Alpine Road revealed a new, spectacular view – deep valleys, rugged mountain peaks, and vast alpine meadows. I stopped several times at various viewpoints to admire the magnificent natural scenery and take photos.
A special moment was the stop at the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe viewpoint. From here, I had a direct view of the Großglockner and the Pasterze Glacier, a fascinating ice world that is constantly changing. The visitor center provided interesting insights into the geology and ecology of the region.
Continuing along the road, I reached the Hochtor Pass, the highest point of the Großglockner High Alpine Road. The landscape here was barren and rocky, but of wild beauty. The cool, fresh air and the vast panorama were simply overwhelming.
The drive also took me through idyllic alpine villages with traditional Austrian houses, where I took a short break. In a cozy inn, I enjoyed a lunch of local specialties such as Speckknödelsuppe (bacon dumpling soup) and Apfelstrudel (apple strudel).
Driving along the Großglockner High Alpine Road was not only a visual experience but also a journey through Austria's natural and cultural history. Each kilometer of the route offered something unique and allowed me to fully enjoy the majestic beauty of the alpine landscape. Exhausted but happy, I ended the day with countless new impressions and a deep appreciation for Austria's natural wonders.
