In Austria, there is a toll and vignette obligation on all motorways and expressways. Tolls are collected in the form of vignettes, distance-based toll, or GO toll. The vignette is valid for most motorway and expressway sections but not for regional and federal roads. Selected motorway or expressway sections with particularly high maintenance costs require a distance-based toll instead of the regular vignette. Both distance-based toll and vignette apply to vehicles up to 3.5 tons. The GO toll applies to vehicles over 3.5 tons MTPLM. To use a truck on motorways and expressways, a GO-Box must be purchased, which is used to pay the toll. A GO-Box can be obtained at Asfinag distribution points.

Both the vignette and the distance-based toll are available as adhesive vignettes at Asfinag distribution points (e.g., petrol stations). Additionally, the distance-based toll and vignette can be registered as Digital Distance-Based Toll and Digital Vignette. With the digital versions, the license plate data and the vignette status are stored centrally and the status of the vignette or distance-based toll can be automatically queried based on the license plate.
Important: When registering through Asfinag, there is an 18-day waiting period for private individuals. When registering through private providers like Digitale-Vignette-Online.at, the waiting period is waived, and the vignettes are immediately registered and activated after ordering.
